NOT YOUR AVERAGE

VOCODER

Vocodine was carefully crafted to

get as close as possible to the

sound of the physical voice box we all love.

Some key techniques Raul used

to achieve this include:

  • Consonant isolation

  • Physical model of plastic tube

  • Impulse actuation

KEYBOARD OR AUTO-MODE

Use a MIDI keyboard for precise control of your vocal input, or set Vocodine to AUTO and configure it to a scale of your choice to let it detect and generate the pitch automatically.

MONO LEADS OR POLY

Play Vocodine in mono mode for a finetuned style reminiscent of a physical voice box, or switch over to poly for a more typical vocoder sound.

MODIFY AND AUTOMATE

  • Seamlessly blend between square, pulse, and sawtooth oscillators.

  • Tweak your robo-voice by changing its character, tone, and formant.

  • Grab a soundwave on the fly and keep playing it.

  • Add some more bite by turning up the hose drive (tube) and saturation.

  • Get spaced out with the JUNO-style choruses.

Apollo 11 lands.

July 16, 1969

Humankind first sets foot on the moon. The magnitude of this historic event sends ripples throughout the entire world and lights up the imagination in everyone like a bolt of energy, especially in the scientific community. The possibility of encountering life on other planets suddenly seems closer than ever.

In the wake of the space race, the biggest brains from all corners of Earth are coming together to discuss how to organize an international alliance to best tackle the inevitable challenges around the corner.

IT'S YOUR MISSION NOW

If you read the whole backstory above, you must be wondering what happened to that one Vocodine machine that was salvaged from the CDP bunker. It was stolen by someone, unfortunately. But not before I managed to carefully craft a digital version, identical in its operation and visual appearance.

If you have a DAW that supports VST2, VST3, AU, or AAX, you can help carry the AstroVox mission on. And when you're taking a break from that vocoding, pay attention to the details of the Vocodine interface. Raul spoke of a secret in the manual, I haven't been able to find it myself yet.

FAQ

Is there a demo version available?

No, there is no demo version available currently. I do plan to make one later on, and the request has been noted. In the meantime please check out the available video and audio material - what you hear and see is what you get. There has been no additional processing apart from a slight bit of reverb in some cases.

Can I use it on a pre-recorded voice or vocal track?

Yes, you can. Vocodine is placed on an audio track as an insert effect, MIDI is routed straight to the plugin. AU-version for Logic Pro X works the other way around - Vocodine runs as MIDI-controlled effect and audio is side-chained. Any source material can be used.

Can I use other sources as carriers, such as my guitar?

Yes. Since version 1.2.1 you can activate external mode by pressing the "EXT" button. This will make it use input channel 1 as modulator and input channel 2 as carrier. Note that your DAW needs to support this type of routing, both audio channels must be separate. If you place something directly on the audio track as you typically would with the internal synth, the same signal will modulate itself and sound terrible (unless it's a stereo track and your audio is hard-panned left and right).

I need to re-download, my link has expired.

The download link initially sent to your email is temporary, but you can sign up using the same email as you placed your order with to access your downloads under "My purchases" at any time.

Is there an update?

If you have version 1.1.2 or above (found by clicking the VOCODINE sticker on the interface), Vocodine will attempt to check for updates and notify you automatically. If you don't, yes there is and you can access it under "My purchases" by signing up using the same email as you placed your order with.
